Touch

Using the outline of her own hand as a model, Sima Yuan used an embroidery technique to weave colorful overlapping “handprints” on several large pieces of black linen. It is reminiscent of “touch”, an instinctive action that humans have used since childhood. It seems to symbolize the artist’s “groping” of the unknown world and also implies the spiritual “soothing” that art gives people. The series of works are generated in the way of “post-ready-made”. After the artist provides a hand contour model, she instructed an unfamiliar student to make it remotely through online tools every day, which took 3 months to complete. These works can be viewed from both sides. This series of works embody the artist’s reflection on the production mechanism and production methods of contemporary art.
